Biography & Team Support Network

Chris Sanford
An athlete, former Boy Scout, and sports enthusiast, Chris enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2004. While on patrol in Iraq in 2008, he suffered severe injuries after an IED discharged near his platoon. Chris suffered serious injuries, including traumatic brain injury, skull and facial fractures, chronic muscle spasms causing severe migraines, and nerve damage to his lower back. In addition to his physical injuries, Chris also suffers from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

His recovery is as inspiring as it is miraculous. Today Chris aspires to become a nurse in order to help other men and women who suffer from these types of injuries. His wife Christine, a science teacher at Knox Jr. High in The Woodlands, has begun preparing him for his courses.

Richard Filip, founder of the Texas Sentinels Foundation, made the surprise announcement to Chris and his family on September 7th at an informal gathering in The Woodlands. A small group of supporters, including representatives from the building teams, came together for a “meet and greet” which culminated in the announcement.
